Keith

Keith Turner

Keith is a tax lawyer with 25 years experience of working in New Zealand and UK law firms, and New Zealand accounting firms.  His areas of tax specialisation include land transactions, taxation of trusts, cross border structuring and inbound/outbound tax planning.  Keith regularly presents on tax issues at NZICA and ADLS events.

Keith enjoys spending his leisure time with his family and friends.

Gavin

Gavin Stewart

Gavin has over 37 years of tax experience which commenced with the Inland Revenue Department in 1970 in Dunedin, followed by a move to Auckland.

Gavin's roles with the IRD included extensive experience as a tax investigator and 8 years as an advisor in the technical and legal area.

After a career spanning just over 33 years with the IRD, Gavin joined nsaTax in March 2004.

Gavin deals with all areas of taxation and has a particular strength in Goods & Services Tax issues, the disputes resolution and the shortfall penalties regimes, and land transactions.

Gavin is a mainlander of origin which perhaps explains his enjoyment of Central Otago pinot noirs.

Maggie

Maggie Jaques

Maggie joined us in April 2007, bringing both public and private sector experience to her role in the nsaTax team. Maggie is a Chartered Accountant with experience in advising clients on general tax issues.

Maggie has previously worked as a Senior Tax Consultant in one of the big four accounting firms and prior to that as an Investigator in both the Corporate Segment and Manukau office of the Inland Revenue Department. Maggie has general and corporate tax experience, however she has an interest in the property sector, land transactions, corporate and trust restructuring, international tax and financial arrangements.

Education wise, Maggie has completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Major) and a Graduate Diploma of Commerce (Commercial Law Major) at the University of Auckland. After her time at University she commenced her tax career with the Inland Revenue Department in January 2002.

Tim

Timothy Chemaly

Tim started his career as a Barrister Sole in Johannesburg South Africa in 1982, and practiced until his migration to New Zealand in 2001.

He joined the Manukau Legal and Technical Services Unit of Inland Revenue in 2001 and left in 2007 to take up a partnership in a North Shore firm of solicitors.  Tim joined nsaTax in January 2008.

His particular areas of interest include:

  • Taxation disputes and litigation

  • GST issues

  • Overseas pension issues

Alistairm

Alastair McKenzie

Alastair specialises in GST and has extensive experience in the area. He operated his own GST consulting practice from 1992 to 2011 and has been rated as one of the two top GST advisors in New Zealand in independent business surveys. 

A lawyer by training, Alastair is author of the leading text GST – A Practical Guide and has published numerous articles. He has also lectured part-time at Masters level for a decade (at Auckland University and AUT University) and presented on New Zealand GST at leading tax conferences.
