Phil has over two decades of tax and accounting experience.
He started his career with the Inland Revenue Department in 1986, followed by a 2½ year stint in Taupo with a medium-size chartered accounting firm.
In 1994 Phil moved to Auckland to take up a position with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in their corporate tax team. Phil progressed to Tax Manager at the firm before moving to nsaTax in February 2000.
Phil was appointed a Director of nsaTax in January 2001.
His education encompasses a Bachelor of Business Studies at Massey University in Palmerston North and he also has a Masters of Taxation Studies with First Class Honours from Auckland University.
His particular areas of interest include:
- Trusts and tax planning and structuring
- Land transactions
- International taxation with a focus on Trans-Tasman structures
- Expatriate taxation, and the taxation of financial arrangements/accrual rules
